What You Ought To Know About Greenhead Gear
By Greg Garner of Hen Killers
Almost every serious minded water fowl hunter knows the brand Greenhead Gear. Greenhead Gear has been the ultimate pit stop for those who want to score a lot of game during the hunting season. However, the company’s patrons usually do not focus on high-powered artillery but rather prefers to hunt by using the most realistic looking spreads possible. Not only does this company provide convincingly real duck and goose decoys, but everything else that you could possibly need on a trip down the hunting grounds is right here. First of all, let’s start with their decoys. The company carries Canada goose, Specklebelly and Snow goose models. There are also the American Widgeons, Blue Bills, Gadwalls, Mallards, Pintails, Ringed Necks, Teals (Blue-winged, Cinnamon and Green-winged), and the Wood Ducks. These decoys come in life size and oversized shells. You can also choose from an assortment of wild fowl stances, from the: active, feeder, looker and even sleeping stance. One of the biggest advantages to the company’s unique decoys is that these can easily be shifted from standing models to floaters. Their secret lies in the fact that most of their decoys are hollowed out shells that are lightweight in design and have corresponding grooves and holes that can be used to make the models stand (using attachable bases) or float (using weights.) For standing models, simply use the decoy bases or even the company’s trademarked Universal Motion Stakes. The latter are mounted stakes that uses fiberglass springs that make the water fowl shells bounce or sway with movement at the slightest wind. This affords your spread that realistic bobbing or rocking motions that wild birds usually do. Mushroom weights and strap style weights can be easily slipped in the decoys as well, making the decoy shells ready to float on the water very easily. Other paraphernalia you might want are the decoy bags for storing and transporting about 24 to 36 decoy shells all at once. There is also the retractable decoy gaff that can be used to snag decoys or downed birds in one quick movement. Cord adjusters, crimps, decoy cords, rig clips, and weights are available separately. However, if you want one complete set, Greenhead Gear carries the decoy rigging kit that contains all the abovementioned paraphernalia in one convenient container. There is also: the double loop lanyard (to keep your favorite game call with you at all times); the Greenhead Gear floater gun case; the Greenhead Gear EconoTote and the small game carrier (to transport the fallen game); and the neoprene shell holders and belt (for the shotgun shells.) Another essential tool for hunting wild fowl game is the hunting blind. Greenhead Gear carries an assortment of blinds, from the: burlap (comes in Avery Marsh Grass, Cornfield Mossy Oak, New Break-Up, Shadow Grass and Shadow Leaf finish); die-cut camo fabric camouflage (made from nylon and comes in Avery Marsh Grass, Mossy Oak, New Break-Up and Shadow Grass finish only); and the mosquito netting (made from polyester and comes in the same patterns as the burlap hunting blinds.)
